Psychotherapist, Writer & Teacher

therapy with Me

I am a Psychotherapist, Writer & Teacher based in the UK. As an Internal Family Systems Therapist, I draw heavily from the IFS model in my work with clients. I am also an Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist, Trainer & Supervisor and integrate schema therapy, as well as other highly effective models including compassion-focused therapy, trauma therapies, somatic therapies, Buddhist psychology and mindfulness-based approaches into my approach. I specialise in helping people with the impact of childhood trauma, but work with a wide range of psychological problems. My practice is online, so I work with people all over the world via Zoom.

My Teaching & Supervision

I’m a meditation teacher for Insight Timer, where you will find a wealth of resources (mostly free/donation-based) including courses, breathing techniques, guided imagery, mindfulness and self-compassion practices and much more. If you are struggling with your mental health – and especially if you have experienced trauma – practices like these are a crucial part of your healing journey, whether you are also having therapy or not. You can find my Insight Timer collection here.

I also teach webinars and workshops for people struggling with their mental health. People really seem to enjoy these webinars and my teaching gets consistently positive feedback – you can read what participants have said here. You can purchase lifetime access to recordings of my webinars for just £10, to stream whenever you like. I have spent many years providing supervision and training for mental-health professionals – teaching counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists how to incorporate theory and techniques from my approach, which draws heavily from internal family systems, but also incorporates trauma-informed models such as schema therapy, polyvagal theory and compassion-focused therapy into their practice.

“Very valuable course in a great format that I warmly recommend! Thank you Dan for sharing your knowledge about trauma, self compassion and IFS. I feel much better equipped when continuing my healing journey.”

Insight Timer is the world’s biggest meditation app, offering tens of thousands of meditations – and also aligns with my values about offering high-quality resources that are affordable for everyone.

Announcing My New Course:

Healing from Childhood Trauma with IFS & Self-Compassion

Did you experience trauma as a child? If so, sadly that might have affected every level of your mind-body system. And research now tells us that this experience is far more widespread than previously thought. It's helpful to understand that trauma exists on a spectrum from mild to severe. And that common experiences like bullying at school, or growing up in a high-conflict home, can be extremely stressful and potentially traumatic for a child. These painful experiences in childhood can affect the way we think, the kinds of self-beliefs we have, the way we process emotions and how vulnerable we are to psychological problems like chronic stress, anxiety and depression.

Over eight days, you will learn all about what you needed to flourish as a child – and what problems it causes when those core developmental needs are not met. The key message of this course is that, whatever you went through as a child, it's never too much and never too late to heal. At the end of this journey you will feel greater hope, optimism and determination to find the healing you so deserve. Join a leading expert on healing from childhood trauma for eight days that could just change your life.

Announcing My New Course:

Easing Worry & Anxiety with Internal Family Systems

On this six-day course, I will guide you through a step-by-step understanding of how to ease your worry and anxiety, especially if they make life a struggle, day to day. You will learn about the evolutionary and neurological basis of anxiety – why it is a threat-focused emotion that warns you if something is threatening, or dangerous, compelling you to act quickly to keep yourself safe.

You will also learn that, although this is potentially life-saving in dangerous situations, it is not so helpful if your fight-flight-freeze response is being triggered in uncomfortable but non-life-threatening situations like getting a critical email from your boss.

Each day combines theory and powerful experiential exercises including breathwork and guided imagery, drawn from IFS and other therapy models, which will help you feel calmer, safer and more at ease. Join a leading expert on childhood trauma, and experienced IFS therapist, for this insightful and transformative course. The six days of teaching will help you live a life that is calmer, happier and more fulfilling.

“A brilliant course! Dan is very reassuring and informative. He explains things really well in a nourishing calming way. The exercises are supportive and transformative. Thanks Dan!”
